Frances Norburyoboe

Frances received her formative musical training with the Berkshire Young Musicians Trust and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. She went on to read Music at St John’s College, Cambridge, and won a scholarship to study baroque oboe at the Royal Academy of Music with Katharina Spreckelsen. Since then Frances has specialised in performing on historical oboes, and plays regularly with Dunedin Consort, Arcangelo, The King’s Consort, Music for Awhile, Brecon Baroque, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Ensemble Zimmermann (Denmark).

Frances has a strong interest in baroque dance, encouraged by the award in 2004 of a Fellowship by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust to spend a month travelling in Europe researching baroque dance and its context. She has recently given workshops in baroque dance at The University of York, Yorkshire Young Musicians and Musicworks.
Frances lives in Oxfordshire with her cellist husband and their golden retriever.
